Archive for February, 2009

This is a very special blog post for us.  We have the best job in world, we get to spend the happiest day of people’s lives with them, and witness amazing committments of love.  We meet our couples before the wedding, their anticipation mounting, their excitement about the wedding and all of the planning apparent.  We see them on their wedding day, the final culmination of all of their love, joy, and hard work.  We see them afterwards to share the memories we have captured for them.  It’s a relationship that is often more than a year, and we grow to think of our clients, very often, as friends.

Sometimes it works the other way around, and friends turn into clients.  We’ve had a great friendship with Rob and Lindsay for a long time. Haley introduced the two of them five and a half years ago, and would like to take credit for them getting married…  When they announced their engagement we were ecstatic!  They’ve even asked Andrew, our little boy, to be a ring bearer, so you’ll definitely see a few photos of that on the blog.  We can’t be happier for Rob and Lindsay for their wedding coming up this May.

Rob proposed to Lindsay at the top of the Sulphur Mountain Gondola in Banff, and we thought there was no better place to do engagement photos.  Rob and Lin – you two were amazing to work with, and so willing to trust us and let us try new things.  We love the images that we created for you, and we can’t wait to see one of them hanging above the mantle in your house!

PS: There are bonus images on our Facebook page!

This is one of Haley’s favourites (not just because she took it….)

An amazing sky:

One just for fun!

We have been anticipating Laura & Dave’s wedding since we first met them in October of 2007!  With Laura’s incredible fashion sense, we knew the entire wedding was going to be beautiful and fabulous, and it was.

Dave & Laura have been together nearly 8 years, and Dave popped the question two years ago on Valentine’s Day.  Their February 14th wedding held so much significance for them, and they were able to celebrate with their loved ones on the most romantic day of the year.

Laura got ready at Shanti salon off Whyte Ave, they did an amazing job making all of the girls look hot.  The hoodie is totally Laura’s style – “Sexy Little Bride”.

Laura got dressed at her parents’ home.

For anyone who knows fashion, you might have heard of a fellow by the name of Jimmy Choo

Dave, our handsome groom, got ready with his guys at the Hotel Mac.  Hands down the most fun we’ve ever had with groomsmen – they were crazy and goofy, and up for anything. Most importantly, they were so happy to be standing up for Dave.

The ceremony was held at the Robertson-Wesley United Church, one of the most beautiful churches we’ve been in. The ceremony was full of laughter and warmth. It was so neat on their programs for the ceremony how the L and D are joined together, very symbolic.

We don’t generally post register-signing pictures, but I love this one. I love the sincerity of the look Laura is giving Dave, the adoration of a new wife.

Dave & Laura both graduated from the Univeristy of Alberta School of Business, so the U of A was a fitting location for their photos. The beautiful flowers awee by Marlow & Richards.

They braved the cold with their bridal party at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club for a few more – the girls all changed into Uggs for the pictures!  I love the stoles – a beautiful touch for a winter wedding.

We couldn’t convince Dave to do snow angels, but Laura and a couple of the groomsmen were game!

This is a great shot.  Dave’s mom is telling a story about how he and a friend stole geraniums from a neighbour when they were little boys, and put tar on someone’s car.  Oops!  Dave is going for his CA, so there were a lot of accountant jokes. Our favourites – “What is an accountant’s best form of birth control? – His personality!” and “What do you call an airplane full of accountants? – A boring 747.”

Their amazing cake was created by Cakes By Janna.  It had layers of red velvet and chocolate cake.

Love this dance shot.  So, so cool.

Since this was a Valentine’s Day wedding, there were a lot of other couples feeling the love at the wedding (including us!)

The favour at the wedding was one of my favourites – a candy bar!  And I couldn’t resist a ‘sweet’ ring shot.  Sigh.  I had to make the joke ;)

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, especially the new Mr. and Mrs. Smythe!!

Our first shoot of 2009!  We were so happy to get together with Diana & Jeremy to officially kick off 2009.  You won’t have to wait too long to see these two again, their wedding is coming up in April.  Jeremy is a photographer himself, and it’s always flattering to be chosen to work with colleagues.  We opted to stay indoors at the Telus Centre on the U of A campus.

The Telus Centre has some incredible architecture.

I love these next images.  So sweet.

All Jeremy’s idea. I love it.

And here’s one just for fun!
