Archive for April, 2009

We have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing week in the Mayan Riviera. It was hot, hot, and hot, and we’re not sad at all to have missed the blizzard.

Here’s one of the 4 pools at our resort, which was huge. Jealous? You should be.

The resort beach was beautiful with white sand and warm water. We enjoyed a few sunrises.

We are going to be photographing Amita & Abheeshek’s awesome cruise wedding in December, with a stop in Cozumel, which was a mere ferry ride from our resort. Since we were in the area, we had to check it out. We had a fun snorkeling trip, and saw one of the cruise ships (will this be ours?) docked in Cozumel. Being there made us even more excited for their destination wedding.

Another tourist stop – Chichen Itza, the ancient Mayan archaeological site ranked as the 5th wonder of the modern world. Wow. This is El Castillo (pronounced cast-ee-yo), the massive central temple of the site. It was built for astronomical purposes, and represents the Mayan calendar.

We took Andrew with us and he loved Mexcio. Did I say loved? I meant LOVED. He loved the bananas, the pool, the beach, the heat, and the elevator in the lobby. I’ve been chronicling Andrew’s life each month in photos, and his 8 month photos were on the beach. Here’s one of my favourites.

We’re back in action and hard at work. Don’t forget, we’re mere hours away from our unveiling!!! Our new project will be revealed MAY 1st at 9 AM. Keep your eyes on the blog!

Shandro Photo is Hiring

April 20, 2009

We are so grateful to have a successful and demanding business.  Shandro Photo is currently looking for a creative, organized, and dynamic part-time office manager beginning this summer.  Click here to view the job posting.

*UPDATE* This posting is now closed. Watch the blog for news about our new Office Manager!

We are looking forward to working with Julianne this September, she is the wedding planner behind A Modern Proposal. We met her when we presented at the WPIC seminar last month, and she joined us downtown for some new headshots.

Julianne’s smile is infectious and despite the sketchy back alley we were in, we had a fun shoot with her and her husband, Rowan.

This is a snapshot I took of the sun peeking between buildings downtown – a split second of amazing light.

Smiles!

Which do you like best? Leave a comment and help Julianne pick her favourite.

We are so close to our big announcement date, watch the blog on May 1st! You won’t be disappointed. I’m having a really hard time holding back and not telling everyone about it!

In the meantime, we have a killer wedding to share. This weekend, we travelled North to the tiny Dutch Hamlet of Neerlandia for Diana and Jeremy’s wedding. We’re not just Edmonton wedding photographers! We travel all over the place.

This is Diana’s elegant dress, the tree is just outside her childhood home. The farm house was packed with people all getting ready for the day.

I love Jeremy’s style. He is a fellow photographer, and we knew we had to bring it to the shoot.

Jeremy, Diana, and her sister hand-folded each one of these beautiful flowers, which decorated the pews in the church and the tables at the reception. For all the work they put in to these perfect flowers, they definitely deserve a place of honour on the blog.

Diana’s face says it all.

This was one of my favourite locations of the day. The light streaming through the windows embraced us, and Diana & Jeremy shared some time alone just after the ceremony. This image is straight out of camera. Just incredible.

Diana’s family farm was our location for most of our photos. The bridesmaids dresses for this wedding were some of my favourite to date. Beatiful detail at the bottom of each – little tiny stars on a dazzling gray backdrop.

Diana & Jeremy fit together. He’s funny and a bit quirky, and she is classic and gentle, and they are each other’s soul mates. No doubt about it.

Peeking out from behind a row of trees we found this fabulous broken down Ford Meteor. That’s what I like to call ‘rural urban’.

Last stop – the Barrhead bowling alley!

This shot, inspired by John Michael Cooper, took a bit of work to set up and to photograph, but I’m sure you’ll agree the end result is superb.

Diana & Jeremy, we hope you are having a relaxing honeymoon, and we wish you love and happiness in your new life together.

I recently did stock photography for the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) at one of the hotels in downtown Edmonton.

The photos will be used for a variety of purposes, one of the most exciting is for the AHLA annual report, distributed to hotels owners across the province.

The Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) recently broke ground for a new building in South Edmonton. I captured the editorial photo for the ground-breaking, as well as a few fun shots with the President (Dave Kaiser) and Chair (Doug Shandro) of the AHLA. The images were used for a light-hearted presentation about the ground breaking at the annual convention in Jasper.

We were so blessed to be a part of Nitu and Jessie’s engagement party. These two are such a warm and fun couple, we see a beautiful connection between them, and look forward to their wedding in 2010.

The ceremony was held at Nitu’s family home in South Edmonton. Nitu looked incredible.

Following prayers, Nitu and Jessie were given gifts, and Nitu was adorned with jewellery.

She’s smiling, but it was quite a process to get those earrings in!

This is a beautiful shot that Michael captured, I think it’s such a wonderfully simple moment amidst a crowd of family and friends.

Jessie’s name in Nitu’s mendhi!

Following the ceremony we were able to steal Nitu and Jessie away for a few moments for photos – they were relaxed and fun despite being very hungry!

I mean, really, could Nitu be any cuter?

The party (par-tay!) was held at the Maharaja Banquet Hall. Nitu & Jessie chose beautiful decorations – check out these fun centrepieces!  Their decorator was Exquisite Creations.

Nitu had a very special entrance all to herself, and was greeted by a bouquet of roses from Jessie. Now that’s a gentleman!

Nitu & Jessie exchanged rings to complete their engagement.

I love this shot I grabbed while Nitu & Jessie watched a dance performance. I remember that from my engagement, not being used to having a ring on my finger. I fiddled endlessly with it, and now it would feel strange to NOT have a ring on my finger.

Two of our favourite people were guests at the wedding! You’ll recognize Ashu & Garry, we’ve been their photographers for a couple of years now, and we were happy to party with them again. Jessie found us through Garry, his good friend. We always love referrals!

There are three things you can count on during Indian celebrations. Food, dancing, and more food. We love all of it! This is a great shot of the dance floor. It’s always easy to spot Jessie. Looking for his head above the crowd was the only way I could find Nitu all night!

We always love to try different things at our shoots. This is a great photo to end this blog post on, an intimate moment between Nitu & Jessie.

Thank you both so much, and congratulations! We can’t wait for next summer.

We’ve got a really cool accouncement coming up, we’ve finally set a date for the big reveal. Watch the blog at 9 am on May 1st and you’ll see what’s going on! We are so excited, and we can’t wait to share it with you, we’re just putting together the finishing touches.

Of course, I have to leave you with a little teaser, but this is all you’re going to get.
