We had the privilege of working with a local wedding planner on a shoot of their amazing decor for their website. Clockwork Wedding Productions is a new event planning company in Edmonton, and Catherine and Karen’s passion is just incredible. The number of gorgeous arrangements they created in a short period of time is very impressive. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and it was one of the most fun commercial shoots we’ve ever done. (It helped that we got to eat some of the treats from Duchess Bake Shop at the end….)

I also must acknowledge the very talented Rosella from Studio Bloom, a local florist. She provided all of of the flower arrangements for the shoot.

We can’t wait to work with these ladies again in the future!

It was impossible for me to choose favourites from the shoot so these are just a small taste – more on our Facebook page.

When Angelina phoned me up to ask about engagement photos, I have to admit that I didn’t quite remember who she was. Angelina and I knew each other in undergrad at the U of A, but I’m much better with faces than names…thanks to the power of Facebook I looked her up while we were chatting and had an ‘oh, yeah, of course!’ moment.

Fast forward a few weeks and I was meeting her amazing fiance Tejas, and we were hanging out at the U of A for engagement pictures. They got engaged at the Olympics (how romantic is that!) and wanted to surprise their parents with a gift of photos. So, I have been wanting to share these images for a while, but had to make sure not to spoil the surprise!

Angelina & Tejas – I had such a fun time working with you, and I wish you so much happiness in your marriage. And if you ever get the urge to go for cupcakes again, just give me a call – I’ll join you!

We recently donated a gift certificate to a fundraiser that a friend of ours organized. He auctioned off the shaving of his beard – the winner got to choose the style, and the charity. I did a poster for the event – can you spot the guest model? The winners of the gift certificate were Marlane & Jacob, and I had the pleasure of photographing them in the river valley.

Spring is finally here, and wedding season is almost upon us!

We have some amazing events coming up this year, including the Grand Opening of our studio on May 27th (watch your inboxes for invites), a ton of amazing couples we’re working with, and a few exciting projects that will be unveiled soon.

How are we going to accomplish all of this? That’s a good question. For the first year, we’ve decided to extend a special opportunity to a photography student, or new photographer who is interested in working with Shandro Photo. We are opening a part-time intern position with the studio for the summer.

Please note that this is a part-time, flexible, unpaid position.  Proficiency in Photoshop is a must!  In exchange for your hard work you will have the opportunity to learn business and photography from a successful Edmonton photography studio.

If you are interested in applying for the intership, please email info@shandrophoto.com with your cv and the subject line ‘Summer with the Shandros’.  Application deadline is May 15th.

Gurpreet and Param are getting married this year, and we are really looking forward to their wedding. We had an amazing opportunity to go with them to Rexall Place and even checked out the Oilers’ dressing room. Gurpreet has a relative with great connections!

Param laced up his dress shoes in Hemsky’s locker. Does he have a future with the Oilers?

Whyte Ave Model Shoot

April 9, 2010

I had a fun evening this week with fellow photographers from the Professional Photographers of Canada exploring Whyte Ave with models. Our NAIT student intern Ashley Urban came along on the shoot, and we had a great time with our gorgeous model, Klara.

Our workshop for Edmonton Wedding Planners to teach them about photography was a huge success.  So much so, that we’re bringing it to Calgary as well!  This workshop is open to all Calgary and area wedding planners as well as any other vendors who might be interested.  Also, any Edmonton planners who missed the workshop here are more than welcome.

As a wedding planner you pour your heart and soul into each detail of your couple’s wedding. Unfortunately, you might find yourself without quality photos of your work to show future clients after the event.

We are delighted to host a workshop specifically to teach wedding planners how to take better pictures. We will cover a range of topics to give you high quality images for your portfolio. Details are below.

Special thanks to Amira Harris of Posh Productions for helping us out in Calgary and Great Events for hosting us.

You can find the registration form here.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome many of Edmonton’s amazing wedding planners (and a few other special guests) into our home studio to teach them about how to take better photos of their work.

As photographers, our time is spent primarily with our couples, exploring emotions and light while incredible wedding planners assemble and style gorgeous table-scapes and reception decor. We don’t always get a chance to capture the decor undisturbed, and it’s great for planners to have the tools to create beautiful images of their own work.

Special thanks to Julianne Cragg of A Modern Proposal for providing us the amazing table-scape to practice on.

If you are a planner who attended the workshop we would love it if you would post links of your pictures from the workshop in the comments section below!

Our portrait studio and new office is nearing completion.  It’s hard to believe how far it has come!  All that is left to be done is the doors, trim, and bathroom tiles.

The job is being done through the company Direct Contracting. The guy in the doorway is our carpenter, Curtis Hnidan.  He and his father Les have done most of the work; the framing, drywall, ceiling, flooring, painting, and (soon) the finishing.  If you are looking for someone to do a project for you I highly recommend Direct Contracting.

The flooring has really changed the look of the room.

We outfitted the studio and office with LED potlights.  They will last 12-20 years without having to change them.  Also, they are environmentally friendly since they use about 1/16 the power of a regular lightbulb!

The next set of pictures will be coming soon and they will be of the finished studio!  We can’t wait to take pictures in it.
