We got to meet three of the city’s most adorable kids – mom and dad were a bit camera shy but these kids were amazing! It’s sad to see summer leaving, but we love the amazing light that comes on a fall evening. Perfect for family photos. We met the Young family near to their house. This natural area is turning into a new neighbourhood, and it will be cool for them to watch it develop and remember that once, when they were kids, they got their photos taken there.

A few years ago we donated a gift certificate to a silent auction at L. Y. Cairns school where Michael’s sister Krista was working. Vanesa, Krista’s colleague, was the lucky winner. It took us a little while to connect, and in between Vanesa added another little one to her family! Once our studio opened we were happy to welcome them for family portraits.

This are two very busy parents! We have enough on our hands with one child, I can’t imagine five!

We got pictures of each child alone, and I have to share this little one – SO adorable.

Summer is jam-packed with weddings for us, but we always make room in our schedule for portrait sessions.  The Islas are the amazing family behind Whimsical Cake Studio.  Their daughter K is a joy in their lives, and we’ve been lucky to get to know the 3 of them over the past year.  We can’t wait to see the canvases hanging in their living room!

Selina’s Party

July 14, 2010

Michael got to celebrate with a wonderful family recently. The party was for Selina, the newest addition to the family. It was a wonderful party for a very warm and welcoming family, and a fantastic dance!

Selina with her parents.

Her loving grandfather shared many special moments with Selina.

I love this terrific candid shot Michael got during the dance – it certainly shows how intense the dancing can get!

Michael had a great time with this family, and we also got to party with them at Nitin & Sameera’s wedding – coming soon to the blog!

We had SO many entries and it was SO hard to choose the finalists for our free family photography contest, so we’re presenting you with 6 finalists.  It was just way too hard.  We want to thank all of our contestants for entering.

Just a reminder of the prize:  A complimentary family photography session with us, a 24×36 canvas, and 2 11×14 prints (over $1100 value!)

Without further ado…here are your finalists (in no particular order).  Please vote at the bottom of the post for the family you feel most deserves free family photography from Shandro Photo.

#1 Nepper Family

This family was nominated by their friend Jennifer.  We were touched by the story of Holly Nepper, an eco-conscious mom (who uses cloth diapers like us!) and her husband Rob who work way too hard and need this prize to spend some family time together and celebrate their beautiful family.  One of their children has needed to be treated at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, which is something we support as well.  Jennifer spoke very highly of the impact the Nepper’s friendship has made on her life.

#2 Vanwart Family

This sweet engaged couple recently added a member to their family: puppy Paisley!  They have never had professional photos done, and would love to have family photos of their new little family.  I love that Breanne entered the contest because families come in all shapes and sizes, and theirs is a great example.

#3 Elliott Morrison Family

This is one busy little family!  Mom and Dad are high school sweethearts who have been together 15 years. They have devoted their time to their two children, and are soon going to take time out of their busy schedules to plan an intimate wedding for the two of them.  They would love to have a family portrait to send to family friends after their wedding, and they have no family portraits of all of them together.

#4 Van Buren Family

We met Stirling and his beautiful fiance and daughter at his brother Foster’s wedding this May.  This family was nominated by Foster’s wife Amanda.  Stirling works very hard in Fort MacMurray.  Being away from his family is challenging and they have no photos of the entire family together.  Especially when long distance is a factor, it would be great for this family to have professional photos to enjoy while they’re apart.

#5 Hopkins Family

Lindsey and her husband need family photos to make sure they can cherish the moments of their son’s life.  They don’t want to miss this important stage in their family life and let their son’s childhood go by without some beautiful pictures of the three of them together.

#6 Craig Family

The Craig family was nominated by their friend Kerry.  This family hasn’t had family photos for 10 years, and now their daughters are both teenagers.  It’s time for an up to date photo of this family. Kerry couldn’t say enough about what a warm and fun family the Craig’s are.  They have extended family across the country, and it would be great for them to have photos to share with their family.

Please vote below. You can only vote once per household. The polling closes on Thursday, July 1st, at 11:59pm.

Michael photographed the Rusnak’s beautiful house in Riverbend for Independent Bath Products, who had remodelled the home. He was happy to work with them again, this time for family photos!

First, check out this amazing kitchen, and two luxurious spa bathrooms.

And here is a sampling of the family photographs.

Casey and I are related in a round-about way. He is my dad’s nephew’s son so I’m not really sure what that makes us… In any case, he and his family have been really good to my family, and I was delighted that we were able to do some family/graduation photos for him this spring.

Little Aadi was such a great subject to work with! This cute little guy has the best playroom ever, and loves reading books with his parents, What a fun family! Thank you for welcoming me into your home.

2010 will bring big changes to Shandro Photo, one of which is a brand new studio space!  You’ll hear more about that soon. In the meantime, we used our living room as a brief studio for photos of the Washuta Family before Christmas.  Remember this maternity session?  Meet their beautiful daughter.

We first met Ines and her husband at Carrie & Nick’s wedding - we were seated at the same table and hit it off, chatting about our children (our little Andrew, and her daughter Naia). I remarked at what an amazingly beautiful pregnant woman she was, and passed her a card for Shandro Kids.  We hand out a lot of business cards, and I’m excited to see the ones that come back to us.  We were delighted when Ines booked our Mini Steps program and can’t wait to introduce you to her little one in 2010!
