Julia & Richard – Engaged

October 25, 2012

When Richard called me a few weeks ago, I knew exactly what he was calling about.  Julia & Richard have been together for a few years and have recently talked more seriously about spending their lives together. Julia is a good friend of mine and had mentioned that she was hoping a proposal was in her future.

Richard wanted to have photos of the proposal and wanted their beagle Charlie to be a part of it, so we came up with a plan to surprise Julia. I pretended that Shandro Photo was getting into Dog Photography, and asked Julia if Charlie could be one of our models.  I even went so far as to post it on our Facebook page so that she would think it was legitimate.  While I fooled her, I also fooled a lot of other people, and within a couple of hours I had several sessions booked for dog photos!

We’re ‘just go with it’ kind of people, so I decided to go ahead with the sessions, regardless of the fact that Michael is allergic to dogs, and I’ve never had a dog.  In retrospect it was really fun, and I’d probably do it again.  I’m going to post some photos of the dogs in a few days, but now I want to focus on Julia & Richard.

As I mentioned, Julia was fooled. I think the look on her face says it all.  Richard printed up a sign for Charlie to wear, and Michael attached it to his collar, I asked Julia to ‘fix it because it was crooked’ and the rest is history!  She said yes!  We’re very excited to be a part of their lives and their wedding, which will be next year. A HUGE congratulations to these two!  Julia is a local wedding planner (she owns Once Upon Your Day), and she’s already chosen some of her favourites of Edmonton’s wedding professionals for her wedding.  We’re very honoured to be one of them!

I love Richard’s face, and that Julia has NO clue what’s going on.

Jackie & Chris are an adorable young couple. They actually booked Michael for their wedding photos before they were officially engaged (we love couples who prioritize their wedding photos!) but even though Jackie knew the engagement was coming, Chris still wanted it to make it a special and romantic evening. He contacted Michael to document the evening, which included a limo ride, and dinner at The Marc restaurant. Along with all of the other patrons of the restaurant, we wish Jackie & Chris a happy engagement, and look forward to their wedding next year!

“Welcome to your scavenger hunt. To pass the game you will have to solve a series of clues I have thought of and find out where the secret locations are before reaching the final treasure.”

You might think that the longer we are in this business, the less emotion we feel at weddings and engagements, since we’ve seen it so many times before. On the contrary, the longer we do this, the more special each wedding feels – each glance, each touch, each kiss. Even more special are the unexpected moments we get to be a part of, like tonight when Deepak asked Poonam to marry him.

Deepak planned a scavenger hunt for Poonam at West Edmonton Mall. The clues led her to Booster Juice (where they first started dating),

Old Spaghetti Factory (where they once went on an interesting date),

Icing by Claire’s (where Poonam likes to buy her bling),

and then to the Ice Palace (she spotted me, but she had no idea what was up!) They have skated at Rockefeller Center together, and the Ice Palace was a good substitute.

Finally, Poonam skated to center ice, for one of the greatest moments of her life. Deepak presented her with this ring (isn’t it amazing?) and she very enthusiastically said yes!  There were people cheering all around the ice.

It’s easy to see how overjoyed Deepak was.

We spent some time exploring the mall as they enjoyed their first few moments as the newest engaged couple in Edmonton.

Here is an excerpt from one of the clues, which shows how deeply Deepak loves Poonam, “I can only imagine spending my life with you. I want to grow old with you and spend each and every day with you by my side”.
