One of our last weddings of the year was the super sweet semi-elopement of Kristin & Dave.  When I met with them, I loved them instantly. I love Kristin’s quirky style and their easy way with each other. This was a wedding boiled down to its essentials: two people in love, making it official.

They planned a small wedding (just parents as witnesses) at the Art Gallery of Alberta, and we spent time prior to the wedding with a tea ceremony at Dave’s parents’ house, and photos around the Art Gallery.

While we were taking photos, one of the Art Gallery employees came up the stairs, and by the look on his face I thought that we were in trouble, or shooting somewhere we shouldn’t (even though we’ve worked in the Art Gallery many times before).  He just looked utterly confused.  I soon realized that he was a dear friend of Kristin & Dave’s, and had unwittingly stumbled across their elopement! He had no idea! It was really cool to watch the realization dawn across his face. (Thanks to Kristin’s mom for ducking out of the way for this shot).

Kristin recently lost her dad, but he was still at the wedding – instead of a bouquet, Kristin carried her dad with her on her wedding day.

Love love love.  I adore Kristin’s dress, sweater, shoes, her whole ensemble.

Dave had a custom suit made for the wedding.

The best part – even after having spent the morning together, these two were still emotional as they said their vows.

This gives you an idea of just how intimate the wedding was. The room at the Art Gallery was airy and bright.

We squeezed in a few last shots while the twilight was descending on downtown Edmonton. What’s really cool about the photo below is that you can see the room where Kristin & Dave said their vows just minutes before in the upper right corner.  Our warm congratulations to Kristin & Dave, this was an awesome wedding to be a part of, and we wish you much happiness in your married life!

Travis proposed to Dusty at Disneyworld, and before they had even returned from their vacation, Dusty had emailed us to inquire about wedding photos.  A couple of weeks later, she had us booked! Now THAT is a girl who knows what she wants!  When she saw her pictures in our studio today she cried, it’s amazing to know that our photography can impact someone like that!

Dusty planned all of the details of the wedding herself, and we think it all came together beautiful. Elegant, classy, and fun.  This couple thoroughly enjoyed their wedding - they ended up staying till the very end of the night, they even collected a few guests from a neighbouring wedding later into the reception!  They really showed all of their guests a good time.

Dusty incorporated a photo of her grandpa into her bouquet, and her grandma’s handkerchief was her something blue.

Love this – her dad helped her get her dress on!

The terrace at the Art Gallery of Alberta was the perfect spot for an outdoor ceremony.

I love the signs that Dusty added on the head table.  Their reception was held at the Matrix hotel, and the uplighting helped add a splash of colour to the room.

Congratulations Dusty & Travis!

Jill & Marlow are a beautiful couple inside and out, and their wedding was a wonderful demonstration of how the love of family and friends can support and lift up a couple. You could feel it all day, like a warm blanket surrounding everyone at the wedding.

Jill & Marlow got ready separately, Jill at Shanti salon just off Whyte, and Marlow at the Beauty Lounge on Jasper Ave.

Michael and Marlow’s friend Tony had some guy bonding time at the salon.

Two different dresses, two different brides, one awesome wedding.

The entire wedding was held at the Art Gallery of Alberta.

The brides’ sisters Erin (left) and Kristi (right) sang Chantal Kreviazuk’s ‘Feels Like Home’ and there was barely a dry eye at the ceremony.

Married!

The bridal party had a chance to relax with some warm Starbucks on a chilly day.

Jill’s cousin’s daughter gave a beautiful grace before dinner.

The food at the Art Gallery was amazing – the beet chip in the salad was unbelievable!

Lots of laughs at the reception.

The Art Gallery is an amazing venue, lots of opportunities for cool angles, and a beautiful wide open dance floor.

We’re so proud to live in a country where Jill & Marlow can be legally married. Gay, lesbian, straight, no matter who you are, you deserve to be with the one you love. We felt incredibly honoured to have been chosen to be a part of Jill & Marlow’s marriage.
