Congratulations to our Grand Prize winners: The Hopkins Family! This lucky family has so many supporters around the globe, and we’re pleased to award them a free photo session, a 24×36 canvas, and 2 11×14 prints!

The other families in our contest are so deserving that we can’t stop there. So, for our runners up, the Neppers, we have a free photo session and an 11×14 prints!

In third place, the Van Burens will receive a free session and 8×10 prints.

Our other finalists will all receive a free session with us. We can’t wait to share their family sessions on our blog!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest!

The first reaction we have to the huge canvas on our wall is usually: ‘wow, that’s hot!’

The second reaction is ‘how on earth could she do that to her dress?’

So, in the interest of public education, we are here to tell you that after her Trash the Dress session, Stephanie’s wedding dress was far from trashed. She took it to a drycleaner (which she was planning to do anyway) and it came out perfectly clean. So if you’re worried about how your dress will fare on the wedding day or anything you might be brave enough to do with it afterwards, rest assured it will be just fine.

Last night we hosted a party for friends, family, colleagues and neighbours at our newly opened home studio in Terwillegar Gardens. We’ve been in the neighbourhood for a year and a half, and absolutely love it. Over the past few months we’ve transformed our basement into a portrait studio/office and it’s finally finished! We’ve posted a few images of the construction and now here is the finished studio.

(Note – the yellow hose is for a fireplace – coming soon!)

This is our new office space, it’s been great working down here.

And…here we are all set up for the party!  We had over 120 guests attend and it was so great to see everyone networking.

All of our decor was from Special Event Rentals, and I’d like to personally thank Kristina for helping me style the event and design these awesome centerpieces.

Ken & Ailynn of Whimsical Cake Studio designed us a delicious sweets buffet, complete with a custom Shandro Photo cake, and cookies for every guest!  These two have a beautiful shop in Garneau, and do incredible custom work.  They are available for weddings and other functions…or if you just need a quick cupcake fix!

These beautiful place cards were designed by Pink Polka Design.

We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of this without our families.  We are so lucky to live close to our parents on both sides, and to Michael’s sisters.  Everyone has helped out by watching Andrew, giving advice and support, and helping set up yesterday.  We appreciate everyone’s help!

So you might notice that it’s been a bit quiet on the blog lately. If you think that means we’ve been super busy, you’re right! In the past little while we’ve moved into our new studio, jetted to Mexico for a fabulous destination wedding, built a playyard in our backyard for Andrew, and had tons of photo shoots. All of this is coming your way soon, and I’ll leave you with a peek at Stephanie & Branden’s Mayan Riviera wedding – much more is on the way soon, I promise!

When Angelina phoned me up to ask about engagement photos, I have to admit that I didn’t quite remember who she was. Angelina and I knew each other in undergrad at the U of A, but I’m much better with faces than names…thanks to the power of Facebook I looked her up while we were chatting and had an ‘oh, yeah, of course!’ moment.

Fast forward a few weeks and I was meeting her amazing fiance Tejas, and we were hanging out at the U of A for engagement pictures. They got engaged at the Olympics (how romantic is that!) and wanted to surprise their parents with a gift of photos. So, I have been wanting to share these images for a while, but had to make sure not to spoil the surprise!

Angelina & Tejas – I had such a fun time working with you, and I wish you so much happiness in your marriage. And if you ever get the urge to go for cupcakes again, just give me a call – I’ll join you!

Spring is finally here, and wedding season is almost upon us!

We have some amazing events coming up this year, including the Grand Opening of our studio on May 27th (watch your inboxes for invites), a ton of amazing couples we’re working with, and a few exciting projects that will be unveiled soon.

How are we going to accomplish all of this? That’s a good question. For the first year, we’ve decided to extend a special opportunity to a photography student, or new photographer who is interested in working with Shandro Photo. We are opening a part-time intern position with the studio for the summer.

Please note that this is a part-time, flexible, unpaid position.  Proficiency in Photoshop is a must!  In exchange for your hard work you will have the opportunity to learn business and photography from a successful Edmonton photography studio.

If you are interested in applying for the intership, please email info@shandrophoto.com with your cv and the subject line ‘Summer with the Shandros’.  Application deadline is May 15th.

Whyte Ave Model Shoot

April 9, 2010

I had a fun evening this week with fellow photographers from the Professional Photographers of Canada exploring Whyte Ave with models. Our NAIT student intern Ashley Urban came along on the shoot, and we had a great time with our gorgeous model, Klara.

Our workshop for Edmonton Wedding Planners to teach them about photography was a huge success.  So much so, that we’re bringing it to Calgary as well!  This workshop is open to all Calgary and area wedding planners as well as any other vendors who might be interested.  Also, any Edmonton planners who missed the workshop here are more than welcome.

As a wedding planner you pour your heart and soul into each detail of your couple’s wedding. Unfortunately, you might find yourself without quality photos of your work to show future clients after the event.

We are delighted to host a workshop specifically to teach wedding planners how to take better pictures. We will cover a range of topics to give you high quality images for your portfolio. Details are below.

Special thanks to Amira Harris of Posh Productions for helping us out in Calgary and Great Events for hosting us.

You can find the registration form here.

This session is so special to me – my incredibly beautiful sister-in-law is going to have a baby!  She and her huband Brock came over for an amazing photo shoot in our studio.  I’ve seen a few bellies, and I think that Alaina’s might just be the most perfect one I’ve seen.  These two look like models, and I think that baby is going to be darn good looking.

I’ve been wanting to do this shot for a while now.

See what I mean?  Models.

My personal favourite from the shoot, fashion-style maternity.

OK, I was wrong. THIS is my favourite photo from the shoot.  Along with a couple more of Brock that I’m not allowed to show on the Internet ;) .

See what I mean about the perfect belly?  This photo is pure sweetness.

Within the month we should have a new neice or nephew!  Yay!  Thank you two for being so easy to work with.  More photos coming soon on our Facebook page.
