Last night we hosted a party for friends, family, colleagues and neighbours at our newly opened home studio in Terwillegar Gardens. We’ve been in the neighbourhood for a year and a half, and absolutely love it. Over the past few months we’ve transformed our basement into a portrait studio/office and it’s finally finished! We’ve posted a few images of the construction and now here is the finished studio.

(Note – the yellow hose is for a fireplace – coming soon!)

This is our new office space, it’s been great working down here.

And…here we are all set up for the party!  We had over 120 guests attend and it was so great to see everyone networking.

All of our decor was from Special Event Rentals, and I’d like to personally thank Kristina for helping me style the event and design these awesome centerpieces.

Ken & Ailynn of Whimsical Cake Studio designed us a delicious sweets buffet, complete with a custom Shandro Photo cake, and cookies for every guest!  These two have a beautiful shop in Garneau, and do incredible custom work.  They are available for weddings and other functions…or if you just need a quick cupcake fix!

These beautiful place cards were designed by Pink Polka Design.

We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of this without our families.  We are so lucky to live close to our parents on both sides, and to Michael’s sisters.  Everyone has helped out by watching Andrew, giving advice and support, and helping set up yesterday.  We appreciate everyone’s help!

New Photo Studio Construction

February 22, 2010

It is a good thing that Haley left her job this year because I have been very busy! We are developing our basement into a portrait studio and office.

The construction has been going very well. Our carpenter, Curtis Hnidan, has been amazing at bringing everything together. He and his father Les have done all of the framing. Curtis has also helped us get our other trades. If you have a development that you want to do, give us a call and we will put you in touch.

Here are some pictures of the development. There will be more very soon. I just figured everything out with constructions permits and everything has passed inspection so far so now the construction is going fast!

This is the view from our studio to where our office will be. The room is an open concept with enough room for two backdrops and an area where we can have another set. It is very versatile. One of the reasons that we bought the house is that the ceilings in the basement are nine feet high which gives us good headroom to place lights above our subjects. Also, we have two areas to shoot from that are quite long. One is 34 feet and the other is 29 feet. This allows us to take pictures with a long lens, giving us more flattering pictures of our subjects than are possible in a smaller studio.

Keep coming back, I will be posting pictures with the drywall up by next week. I’m looking forward to covering up the pink walls :) .

We were so lucky to work with the gorgeous Agerbak family recently – it’s easy to see where the kids get their good looks from! Mom picked awesome bright colours for everyone to wear.

A good word to describe this little girl: precocious!

The latest addition to the family.

I love this sweet moment with Mom.

Big sister, and her new best buddy.

We’ve enjoyed watching your family grow, and we’ll see you again in the future!
