You’ve seen a few posts about Shaira & Aly on the blog. From their engagement last year, to a fall portrait session, and now finally their wedding, I’ve loved spending time with these two and their families.
I know they say that opposites attract, but when it comes to our couples I think the opposite is true – the couples we work with seem to have the same fun and quirky personalities as us, which usually makes for a pretty entertaining wedding day. Shaira & Aly currently live in Toronto, but if Shaira has anything to do with it they’ll eventually move back to her hometown of Edmonton.

I started the week with Shaira’s mehndi.
After a few more events it was on to the wedding day! Christy and the guys prepped in west Edmonton, and then Aly came to pick up Shaira from her parents home.
We headed to the U of A for a few photos before the ceremony.
The Muslim wedding ceremony involves signing a marriage contract, the recitation of the Nikah, and the placement of rings on the couples fingers by the officiants.
After the ceremony, Shaira & Aly had a quick clothing change, and went on to the reception at the Derrick. Check out their unique favour idea – they were a hot commodity at the wedding!
A few games kicked off the reception – the coins that Shaira collects represents fertility (I’m sure her mom won’t mind a few grandkids!), and her brother Rahim was the proud recipient of a custom bobble-head doll among some other gifts.
The Derrick presented an amazing patio buffet for the reception.
Divinity Productions got the party started!
Congratulations Shaira & Aly! We need to have another photo shoot in a few months or I’m going to into withdrawl. Thanks to Christy for shooting with me and a few of the photos in this post.
