When we first hear about Carin & Pouya’s wedding we were excited and intrigued.  A Broadway theme, with a unique musical for each table at the reception, and Atmosphere Wedding Planning and Design for the planner.  Awesome!  Carin loves Broadway and saw her first show a few years ago courtesy of Pouya.  Her beautiful dress is from the famed Kleinfelds!

A Broadway-themed wedding needs to have a lot of drama, and a lot of sparkle.  These shoes give you a taste of that! Carin’s are the pink sparkly ones in the middle.

Jacquie & Justin

June 21, 2012

Wedding Obsession | Canadian wedding inspiration

There were many elements of Jacquie & Justin’s wedding that made it a soft and romantic affair.  Jacquie & Justin are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet, and the joining of these two also joined two large families!  The joy of both families at this union was incredible, and the reception was full of lovely warm words about both Jacquie and Justin and their accomplishments and ambitions.  I’d keep an eye on these two! There’s no telling where their successes will lead them.

The church where Jacquie & Justin were married was very special to them as Jacquie’s family has a long history of being married there!

A great shot by Bruce before the ceremony begins.

Julie & David have been on our blog before – they were both in the bridal party for Shauntel & Jason last year and we were thrilled to work with their family and friends again! While I was in the mountains with Shelly & Kevin, Michael and Raymond were treated to a super fun wedding day. It would be impossible for the wedding of these two not to be a blast.

The choice of brown suits for the guys was great, they all looked very handsome.

I told Michael that I though how he had posed the girls for this shot was really cool. And then when he told me that he didn’t pose them at all, I thought it was even better!

Julie is stunning – check out her dental bling!

Julie & David got married in the same church as their friends Shauntel & Jason – it’s a beautiful old church in Morinville and the stained glass gives it the most interesting light.

After the ceremony everyone went to Fort Edmonton Park where Julie & David had rented one of the houses for photos.

Check out the Fort Edmonton Park website – we’re thrilled that several of our couples are featured there! Julie and David are here, and a slideshow with other couples is here.

On they way to the reception from Fort Edmonton Park, the bridal party’s limo got stuck by a train.  Luckily, Raymond was with them.  I think he had fun! Especially after this wedding he wants to shoot with us again next year ;)

I can’t show you most of the photos from that time, but here is a sampling that answers the question “what does a bridal party do while waiting about 40 minutes for a train to pass while on a limo bus with a lot of beer?” (all of these shots are Raymond’s)

Finally made it to the reception, where best man Jason’s speech made grown men cry.

On their first date, David took Julie to A & W.  And the rest is history.

Some of you may have been wondering where we’ve been! The blog has been quiet for a little while. We’re not quite done with weddings for the year, but we had the chance to take an amazing trip recently to New York. I’ll save that blog post for some cold winter’s day…  We’re back hard at work now and I have some fantastic weddings to share with you. (On another note, our little baby is giving me kicks as I’m writing this blog post – if you needed a reason to smile today, that should be a good one!)

We’ll start with Chelsea & Alistair.  Chelsea is a very detail-oriented bride and wanted her day to be a fairy-tale.  In the end, her wedding was just that. A wonderful, magical day with fantastic weather, and all of the details came together perfectly.  She had a number of unique touches during the day that I’ll talk about as we go.

Chelsea was a relaxed bride, even though she put an amazing amount of work into planning and coordinating the wedding. She was totally calm all day and managed to look completely elegant, even in the midst of getting ready.  I’m a huge fan of her birdcage veil!

So here’s a little insight into how we work: I narrow down the photos from all the weddings that we shoot, even the ones that Michael does with a second shooter when I have another wedding of my own.  When I was going through Chelsea & Alistair’s wedding, I started with our second shooter Christy’s photos (Michael hadn’t seen them yet), which started with the guys getting ready.  I was so thrilled when I got to the next series of photos, that I posted on her Facebook at 11pm the night of the wedding. This is what I wrote: “Ummmm…garage sale? Michael Jackson? Yes. That’s going on the blog.”  Christy said that she had to drag them away so they wouldn’t be late for the wedding.

And yes, they actually bought those items! Talk about a unique wedding favour…

The ceremony at the McKay Avenue School was even more special for Chelsea since her mom used to work there.  It was a beautiful location that suited her style perfectly.

The beautiful flowers were created by La Piazza Dasee.

Fitting with the vintage theme of the wedding, the reception was at the Blatchford Hangar at Fort Edmonton Park, and they had a chance to do photos there before the reception.

This photo is awesome, and I love the thought of all of the guests who rode by in the trolley and watched Michael take it.  I mean, he must have looked ridiculous – he had his back to the bridal party, taking the photo in the opposite direction.  So for any of the guests wondering what on earth he was doing, this is it (Michael just told me that he thinks taking the picture in the reflection was Chelsea’s idea).

Images like this make me love Michael’s talent even more. He’s pretty awesome.

Sweet ride!

Remember those unique touches?  Here’s a really cool one.  Chelsea had one glass for every guest, and it was their responsibility to make sure they kept it throughout the night.  It went a long way to saving on wasted water in washing, and wasted drinks that people might leave on tables.

Decor for the event was by Special Event Rentals. Julianne Cragg of A Modern Proposal did a great job with day-of coordination.  Michael was happy to work with her again.

So cool – Chelsea and Alistair were piped in to the reception (and also up and down the aisle at their ceremony!)

Congratulations Chelsea & Alistair! Your wedding was absolutely beautiful.
