It wasn’t until I arrived at Jesse & Cheryl’s ceremony that I realized that both Christy and I went to university with him, and it wasn’t until they came to see their photos that he realized he’d gone to high school with my sister-in-law. So it’s a pretty small world out there!

Christy spent the morning with Cheryl – she really embraced Jesse’s culture, and looked incredible in her wedding outfit.

Jesse got ready among family and friends. I realized during the morning that I know an awful lot about Sikh weddings at this point. Jesse was asking for a bit of advice on how certain things happened during the ceremony, and actually looked to ME for advice! I’m happy to help make my couples and their families comfortable with the experience that I’ve accumulated.

I love this little peek that Cheryl took as she was seated.

Rain? Moving on…

Fortunately the rain eased off in the evening and we were treated to the most beautiful evening.

Several delegates from the Netherlands attended the wedding. Cheryl spent time there on a student exchange many years ago, and made such an impression that many of her host family and friends wanted to celebrate with her. They brought some special gift for her from the Netherlands.

Congratulations Jesse & Cheryl!

Interestingly enough, on the same weekend that I was with Jesse & Cheryl, Michael was photographing another fusion wedding…that one will be up on the blog shortly!

I’m going to start off by giving Sonya a big round of applause – she managed to plan this wedding almost single handedly, while she and Amrik were living in different countries, and neither of them lived in Edmonton. She certainly had help along the way, but every last detail was planned and executed perfectly.

So next are the shout outs to the supporting cast for the wedding, the vendors that made everything go smoothly.

- Wedding Planner: Priya from Weddings by Priya (she was brought on to the team very close to the wedding and did a great job organizing all the last little details). Anyone planning an upcoming Indian wedding would be well advised to contact her.
- Videographer: Sarah from Nostalgia Media (super fun to work with, and very professional)
- Venue: Mirage Banquet Hall for the sangeet, and the Oasis Centre for the Hindu wedding and reception.
- Decor: Elegant Touches
- Flowers: Graham & Lane
- Salon: Alexander Daniel (this incredible team made Sonya and her bridesmaids look gorgeous for multiple events!)
- Acrobatics: Lyne Gosselin from Firefly Theatre.
- Food: Haweli (yummy!)

Let’s get to some photos, shall we?

The first event was the Sangeet/Engagement at the Mirage. Just before the wedding, Sonya was super excited that she would be ‘officially engaged’ at the start of the wedding. Even though she and Amrik have been together for years, it was so sweet to see her excitement.

Sonya & Amrik played a few games, including this one. Whoever found the ring in the bucket first (with their eyes closed) wears the pants in the relationship. Sorry, Amrik!

We were treated to several beautiful dance performances.

Including Amrik! This dude can DANCE. He surprised Sonya with an amazing dance along with his friends.

Sonya was so relaxed getting her mehndi done.

I promised the Kang girls that I would post the rangoli they made for Amrik’s Maiyan ceremony – great job girls!

The colour scheme for the Sikh wedding was awesome.

This one was Sonya’s idea and I think it’s so beautiful. A contrast of the elegant wedding lengha with urban grit.

The Hindu ceremony was at the Oasis Conference Centre. It is an elegant venue and I can’t wait to work there again.

Before the reception I had a quick (and I mean quick!) session with Sonya & Amrik alone. It was raining, so I had to improvise, and I’m really glad I did.

A few touch-ups before the grand entrance.

The reception was also at the Oasis, and the decor by Elegant Touches was amazing.

Their custom signing book with images from their engagement sessions looked awesome.

Were you intrigued by the acrobat that I mentioned earlier? Here is Lyne and her partner, wow-ing the crowd. Their performance was incredible.

You can’t have a glamorous wedding like this one without some bling.

Have you ever seen a dance floor so packed? It was crazy down there!

I got tired just re-living that whole crazy week. It was an amazing wedding, and I’m pretty sure my new baby is going to be born dancing to bhangra. Thank you Sonya & Amrik for such a fantastic time!
