Woodall Family Photos

October 8, 2015

It’s taken me some time to decide what to say in this blog post.

Many of you will recognize Claire and her boys, her husband Cst. Dan Woodall was recently killed in the line of duty, and a spotlight has been on Claire and her family though this tragedy. She has been through many interviews and functions, and has shown amazing strength throughout everything.

I know Claire is so grateful for the support of Edmontonians and I actually talked with her about sharing these photos and what she would want me to say. I’m in awe of how open she has been and she is an inspiration for a lot of people out there who are dealing with loss and emotional circumstances. Now that some time has passed, she is settling into the next stage of her life, and focusing on a positive fresh start for her and her boys.

Claire and I first met 7 years ago when we were new moms – we were in a group together and chatted about the struggles of new parenthood. She’s such a funny and warm person and I’ve always enjoyed spending time with her.  Fast forward and here we are, each with two young kids in school, and with new challenges on that front!

I feel lucky to have been able to spend some time with Claire and the boys for this shoot – they are so full of energy and unbelievably cute!!

A and I went to high school together, and thanks to Facebook have been able to keep in touch over the years, while she completed medical school overseas.  A is a strong, beautiful woman and we chatted together about doing a shoot just for her, to celebrate this time in her life.  We decided to turn it into a family shoot, and it was wonderful to meet her parents and brother.

A reminded me that in high school she predicted I was going to be a photographer.  I was one of the editors of the yearbook and took quite a few of the photos. I definitely had a love for it but never imagined I was going to turn it into a career. In fact, I was determined to be a doctor myself! I don’t remember her making that prediction, but I think it’s super cool that 15 years later I’m taking photos of her, and that she saw something in me even back then.

Hold on to your hats, fans, we have a lot of blog posts coming your way! We have a few families, a couple of new snuggly babies, some awesome teens, and a wedding. We’ve been super busy!! Not to mention a big project on the way, it’s something I’ve created specific to Edmonton brides and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.

In the meantime, meet the Bodnarchucks! Michael used to work with Ryan, and we’re shooting Kristen’s sister’s wedding next year. We had a wonderful dinner with them after their shoot and thanks to Kristen now have a go-to salad recipe for entertaining.

The Sparrow Family came to us from our membership with Modern Mama – are you a Modern Mama? Their older daughter was so sweet and playful and she connected with Michael right away. They welcomed a new little cutie recently and used the opportunity to update their family photos.

I was so honoured to work with the Williams family. They officially adopted their son after having welcomed him into their hearts and home several years ago. It was so obvious from spending time with these three that they were meant to find each other, and to create this new family.
